The fifth series of Saudi Arabian banknotes were put in circulation in 2008. Between the 4th and 5th series, a special commemorative issue of 200 and 20 Saudi Riyals were created. These included large, colorful portraits of King Abdulaziz. The 20 includes a picture of the Quba Mosque, while the 200 has a picture of the Masmak Palace. The fifth issue was printed in the era of King Abdullah bin Abdullah Al Saud and issued between 2007 and 2008. This series was more similar to the 3rd issue with brighter colors and less dense printing. Mosques continue to be displayed on most banknotes, and the Ka’aba is shown on the 500 Riyal. The lower denominations do show picture of modern technology such as the Al-Jubayl Seaport, King Abdulaziz Historical Center and the King’s Palace in Almurab’a.
