I thank Alan Roy and Paul Wallis for their input regarding this issue. Final answer: No U.S. Flag appears on current issue Canadian currency. The portrait on the front of the bill determines the flag on the back. Contemporary portraits use the current Maple Leaf flag. Earlier portraits use the older "Red Ensign" flag which was the national flag when the portrayed person was alive. The Red Ensign flag and the Ontario flag are very similar in appearance and easily confused for one another with such small, engraved renderings. P.S: There is no flag on the $20.00 note.
