The silver Britannia coin was created in 1997 (also known as the 1997 silver Britannia) is the official silver bullion coin of the United Kingdom. Like most solid silver coins, they typically contain one troy ounce of silver down to 1/20^th. The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and the denomination around the edge. The reverse features Britannia, she was first depicted as a goddess with a Corinthian helmet, shield and trident by the Ancient Romans and was taken as a symbol of marine dominance by the British in 1707.
