The silver Britannia coin was created in 1997 as the official silver bullion coin of the United Kingdom and they typically contain one troy ounce of silver down to 1/20th. The obverse of the coin features a side profile of Queen Elizabeth II and the denomination. The reverse features Britannia, she was first depicted as a goddess with a Corinthian helmet, shield and trident by the Ancient Romans and was taken as a symbol of marine dominance by the British in 1707. This 2018 sample also features the "oriental" border around the edge of the coin. An old Britannia coin is still considered bullion coins since they were created with the intention of being an investment. Like all other bullion, British silver coins are dependent on the silver price for their actual value.
