The British Virgin Islands (also known as the Virgin Islands) is a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean. It is located to the east of Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands and northwest of Anguilla. The British Virgin Islands consists of four main islands—Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada, and Jost Van Dyke—and more than 50 other smaller islands and cays.
The Dutch briefly settled in the islands until the British took over after the Third Anglo-Dutch War. Though the British Virgin Islands is a British Overseas Territory, it uses the US dollar as its currency.
The British Virgin Islands releases commemorative coins for special occasions. These coins feature the profile of Queen Elizabeth II and a design that is related to the occasion.
