The Argentina 1 Austral banknote issued in 1985 is part of the provisional austral issues. This means that these banknotes are left-overs from the preceding peso argentino currency and were overprinted with the denomination in austral currency. This particular Argentina 1 Austral paper bill is in uncirculated condition. Its obverse is a portrait of El Libertador Jose de San Martin. The reverse of the banknote features the El Paso de los Andes or Crossing the Andes which is a painting by Augusto Ballerini depicting General San Martin and his army crossing the Andes in January 1817. The Coat of Arms is also shown on the notes reverse. This 155 x 75 mm paper banknote has a sunburst pattern as its watermark.
