The Kuwait Dinar was introduced in 1960. It replaced the Gulf Rupee which was previously in use. The current Kuwait Dinar consists of coins and banknotes in the denominations of ¼, ½, 1, 5, 10 and 20 Dinar banknotes. The Dinar is pegged to the US Dollar at 1 Dinar to around 3.26 USD. The banknotes consist of bright colors like red, green and blue. Early designs consisted of portraits of Sheik Sabah bin Salim al-Sabah and sheikh Abdullah Al-Salim. These were the only 2 rulers featured on Kuwaiti banknotes. Designs afterwards and up until present day have a pretty abstract design. They feature images of national monuments and Kuwaiti industry.
