Born into a noble Andalusian family in 1453, Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba’s early years were steeped with tragedy. He has been honored by being features on the Spain 100 Pesetas Banknote, 1931. It is a purple, black, brown, orange, green, and blue banknote. Its obverse side features Gonzalo Fernandez de Cordoba (The Great Captain). Its reverse side shows the painting “The Great Captain in the Field of the Ceriñola Before the Corpse of His Enemy the Duke of Nemourse” byCasado del Alisal. Though the note does not have a security thread, it has a watermark of a helmeted bearded head in profile. The note was also withdrawn in 1939.
