Today we are going to dive right in to the rest of Independence Day banknotes from around the world!

In 1998, Sri Lanka issued its 50th anniversary along with a portfolio to display the banknote.  Their portfolio showed peaceful images consistent with its country’s culture.

The Philippines has produced banknotes commemorating its independence from the Spanish in 1898 and its independence after WWII in 1948.  The Philippines has highlighted its first President Manuel Rojas on its 100 Peso and showed the lowering of the US flag (the Philippines was an overseas US Territory under its protection after WWII) and the raising of the Philippines flag.  Showing 2 countries flags on a banknote is extremely unusual.

Malaysia produced 2 banknotes for its 60th anniversary.  In 2017, the Bank of Malaysia created a 60 RIngitt notes and a 600 Ringitt.  The 600 Ringitt became the largest banknote (in size) every printed.  It is truly an amazing piece of banknote art showing Malaysian leaders on a yellow and green backdrop showing Malaysian imagery.

Namibia celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2020 and have issued a 30 dollar polymer banknote showing a Rhino and its leadership.  It is also distinctive because it commemorates 30 years of Peace and Stability.

One of the most interesting ‘Independence Day Banknotes” was issued by Kuwait in 1993.  This 1 Dinar commemorated the 1st Anniversary of the liberation of Kuwait by Coalition Forces.  This note shows both a war scene with an oil well on fire, balances with leaders and soldiers embracing each other.

July 4th might be the celebration of the United State’s Independence but is also a great time to commemorate democracy and freedom across many countries.   Happy Independence Day to all free countries and to their people.  And lets remember the words in the US Declaration of Independence Preamble:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness

Never have more beautiful words ever been spoken.
