The Predecessor of the New 100 MXN

The new 100 Peso banknote replaces the old yellow and red 100 that has been in circulation for a while now. I guess that Banco De Mexico needed a refresh on their banknotes. They have also redesigned the 200, 500, and 1000 Peso banknotes as well. The old 100 Pesos features an image of Nezahualcoyotl, a philosopher, warrior and ruler who belonged to the Acolhua people. On the reverse is an image of Templo Mayor and central plaza of Tenochtitlan.

The new 100 Peso banknote is colored in red and white. This is also made out of polymer compared to the previous version which was made out of paper. The front features a portrait of Juana Inés de la Cruz who was a scholar and writer. There is also an image of the San Ildefonso college too as well as the logo of Banco de Mexico which is Mexico’s central bank. On the reverse is an image of the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve located in the state of Michoacan. You can find these butteflies on the front too.
