On Monday August 17, 2020 Bank Indonesia released a brand new 75,000 Rupiah Banknote to commemorate it’s 75 years of independence and also the countries achievements during the past 75 years.
The banknote is colored in red, white, green and yellow. On the front it features Sukarno, the first president of Indonesia, and also Mohammad Hatta the first vice president of Indonesia. The first flag hoisting after Indonesia’s independence is in the background. As well as structures like Youtefa Bridge, Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), Trans Java Toll Road.
The reverse features an image of Indonesian children in traditional clothing to symbolize the nations hope for future generations.
Not Your Traditional Denomination
The special 75,000 Rupiah denomination commemorates the 75 years of independence and they also printed 75 Million notes.
It’s the first ever denomination of its kind released by Bank Indonesia. It follows the same trend used by other central banks who have come up with special non traditional denominations to commemorate significant events or people. For example Djibouti 40 Francs to commemorate 40 years of independence. Fiji 7 Dollars to commemorate an Olympic Gold Medal win by their national rugby team named the 7s. Last but, not least the Solomon Islands 40 Dollars to commemorate 40 years of independence.
What do you think about this new Indonesian banknote and also central banks coming out with special denominations?
