On May 10, 2024 the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic put into circulation a new Kyrgyzstan 5000 Som banknote. It’s the final banknote from the 5th series. The other denominations ranging from 20 Som – 1,000 Som were put into circulation from mid 2023 to Februrary of 2024. This new banknote family aims to increase security among while still maintaining and honoring the historic and cultural figures on the previous banknote designs. Before the introduction of the new Kyrgyzstan 5000 the biggest 5th series banknote was the Kyrgyzstan 1,000 Som, 2023. This is a commemorative banknote issued by the Kyrgyz Bank to celebrate the 30 years of national currency. It is a gray colored banknote. Its obverse side features the philosopher Jusup Balasagin. Its reverse side shows the “Throne of Solomon” monument on the Sulaiman-Too Sacred Mountain. Security features include a windowed security thread and a watermark of Jusup Balasagan with an electrotype 1000

The largest denomination from the 4th series was the Kyrgyzstan 5000 Som, 2016. Its obverse side highlights the Kyrgyz actor Suimenkul Chokmorov. Its reverse side portrays the Ala-Too, one of the oldest cinemas in Bishkek. Security features of the note include the De La Rue Mask security detail on the obverse side, a windowed security thread with demetalized 5000 COM, a Suimenkul Chokmorov watermark, and an electrotype 5000 watermark.

The new Kyrgyzstan 5,000 Som banknote is colored in green just like the previous version. On the obverse side is a portrait of outstanding Kyrgyz actor and artist Suimenkul Chokmorov. In the background is an image of a mountainous terrain. The reverse side shows an image of the building of “Ala-Too” cinema. Security features include a security thread, color shifting ink and a watermark. Do you like the design of these new banknotes?
