On November 9, 2024, the Central Bank of Sudan announced the introduction of a brand new Sudan 1000 Pounds banknote. It’s part of the Central Bank’s effort to modernize the country’s currency and to stay ahead of counterfeiters. With the ongoing conflict there has also been attacks on the Central Bank of Sudan and the Sudan Currency Printing Company which resulted in the looting of large quantities of banknotes. This has increased the amount of cash liquidity in the country has negatively impacted prices. The old version of banknotes will remain in circulation. This new banknote will feature a brand-new color, design and increased security features.
Before we show off the latest banknote. Let’s present the current design in circulation so we can distinguish the two. The current version is the Sudan 1000 Pounds, 2022. It features a blue and green color scheme. On the obverse side is a Sorghum plant and grain silos. The obverse side is written entirely in Arabic. While the reverse depicts a Sorghum plant and farmers plowing a field with cattle and with a waterfall in the background. In the upper right hand corner, you can also find an image of the Central Bank of Sudan emblem. The note’s watermark reveals a Secretary bird and an electrotype CBOS / LS 1000. It also has a RAPID windowed security thread with Islamic ornaments.
The newest version of the Sudan 1000 Pounds, 2024 is printed by Goznak and colored in shades of brown and gold. The obverse side is written in Arabic and it features an image of the Port of Sudan, a grain silo, and gold bars. On the reverse side of the banknote is a large image the Central Bank of Sudan headquarters in Khartoum and the Central Bank of Sudan embled in the upper right hand corner. Security features include a security thread, registration device and a watermark. What do you think about this new release?
