On August 8, 2024 the National Bank of Ukraine started to circulate two new Ukraine 500 and 1000 Hryven banknotes. These new banknotes commemorate the 33rd Anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence. As history tells us, Ukraine declared independence in 1991 as the Soviet Union dissolved. With the armed conflict going on this is another way to celebrate the national identity. More commemorative banknotes will be released as well.

However, Ukraine has been no stranger to releasing commemorative banknotes. In the past few years they have released plenty of commemorative banknotes celebrating the countries fight for independence and sovereignty. Before we show off the latest banknotes lets show you some of the current banknotes so you can distinguish them.

An example of current edition banknotes is the Ukraine 500 Hryven, 2021. This version commemorates the country’s 30th independence. Its colored in orange, green and white. The obverse side depicts Grigoriy Skovoroda. The reverse features the Kievo-Mogilyansk Academy. Security features include a security thread and watermark.

Now the largest denomination is the Ukraine 1000 Hryven, 2021. It was issued by the National Bank of Ukraine to commemorate the country’s 30th year of independence. Its obverse depicts Volodymyr Vernadskiy. The reverse features the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kiev. The note was printed by Banknote Printing and Minting Works of the National Bank of Ukraine. It also bears the signature of Kyrylo Yevhenovych Shevchenko. Security features include a watermark and security thread.

2024 Ukraine 500 1000 Commemorative Banknotes

The newest Ukraine 500 and 1000 commemorative banknotes follow the same design as the current banknotes in circulation. They will also have the same security features and will be legal tender. The aim of the new banknotes is to replace worn and damaged banknotes and to improve the quality of cash in circulation. The way to distinguish these new commemorative banknotes from previous versions is by looking on the reverse side on the upper right hand corner and finding text that reads: “СЛАВА УКРАЇНІ! ГЕРОЯМ СЛАВА! (Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!)”. What do you think about this latest release by Ukraine?
