On August 16, 2024 the Central Bank of Venezuela announced that they will be incorporating 2 new banknotes into their current Bolivar Digital (Digitales) banknote family that was initially introduced in 2021. The current banknote family ranges in denominations from Venezuela 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 Bolivar Digital (Digitales). These two latest banknotes will be in denominations of Venezuela 200 and 500 Bolivar Digital (Digitales). They feature a brand new design to distinguish from the previous banknotes but, they maintain a lot of the same elements and themes. Before we show off the latest Venezuelan banknotes let’s review some of the previous banknotes that they printed.

Before the introduction of the Digital (Digitales) banknote family, the Bolivar Soberano was the currency of Venezuela. During this time inflation was at an all time high and the largest denomination banknote printed was the Venezuela 1 Million Bolivar Soberano, 2020. It 2020 was issued by the Central Bank of Venezuela to commemorate the 200th year of the Battle of Carabobo. The obverse of the banknote features Venezuelan leader Simon Bolivar. On the reverse are the coat of arms of Venezuela and an illustration of the Battle of Carabobo in 1821. It and bears a windowed security thread with a demetalized BCV. Its watermark design reflects an image of Simon Bolivar and an electrotype BCV.

Now before the introduction on the 200 and 500 Bolivar Digital (Digitales); the largest banknote from the Digital family was the Venezuela 100 Bolivar Digital (Digitales), 2021. The Venezuela 100 Bolivar Digital (Digitales) Banknote was issued by the Banco Central de Venezuela in 2021 with the same value as the 100 Million Soberano. The banknote’s obverse is in a vertical orientation and features revolutionary Simon Bolivar. The reverse side depicts the Battle of Carabobo and the coat of arms of Venezuela. The banknote bears a windowed security thread with a demetallized BCV. It also contains a watermark that shows Simon Bolivar and an electrotype BCV.

The Venezuela 200 Bolivar Digital (Digitales) is colored in purple and yellow, while the 500 Bolivar Digital (Digitales) is colored in green and yellow. Both banknotes feature a vertically designed obverse side. On the front you can find an image of the Trilogy of Simon Bolivar. It consists of 3 different portraits of the revolutionary. In the background you can find images of bridges. On the reverse side of both banknotes you can find an image of the Naval Battle of Lake Maracaibo as well as an image of General Rafael Urdaneta Bridge. In addition, you can find an image of the Venezuelan coat of arms on the left hand corner and 200 Year Anniversary text. Security features include a watermark of Simon Bolivar, a 2mm wide security thread, a latent image of BCV text, microtext, fluorescent ink, and multicolor fibers throughout the banknote.
