For the third time in the past 12-13 years, the government of Venezuela launched a new bolivar, slashing six zeros from its Bolivar Soberano currency. The name of this new bolivar is the “digital bolivar”. While the name is “digital”, the new bolivar is a fiat currency and not a cryptocurrency.
The first redenomination took place in 2008, adding the “strong” prefix to the name and removing three zeroes from the currency. Despite the change, inflation and devaluation went on. As a result, a second redenomination plan was introduced in 2018, automatically removing five zeros from the strong bolivar and renaming the legal tender to “sovereign bolivar” (Bolivar Soberano). With the collapse of Venezuela’s fiat money, the country has become a promising place for alternative currencies.
The Digital Bolivar seeks to facilitate payments and transactions. The purpose of the monetary reform is to improve the monetary system of Venezuela. It will make way for the economic recovery of the country which is impacted by a series of economic sanctions imposed by the US government.
Bolivar Digital (Digitales) Banknotes
The launch of the Digital Bolivar also requires the issuance of new paper bills. For example the 10 Bolivar Digitales which is equivalent to the 10 million Bolivares Soberano and the 20-Bolivar Digitales banknote which is worth the same as the 20 million Bolivar Soberano. These banknotes share similar design elements with the commemorative 1 Million Bolivar Soberano issued in 2020. They highlight the Battle of Carabobo. The obverse of these banknotes features Latin American Independence leader Simon Bolivar. Simon is the leader of the battle and also whom the currency takes its name from. The reverse side of these Digital Bolivar banknotes illustrates a scene of the Battle of Carabobo. It also shows the Monument to the Motherland on the Carabobo Field and the Venezuelan emblem.
Hi I would like to know where I can exchange Bolivar notes ? I am located in Canada. I checked the value of the 1 million Bolivar note this morning and was shown $143,000.00 plus. Thanks
1 Million had 6 zeros removed so its now only worth 1 bolivar vs the exchange rate.
I entered 1 million Bolivar (VES) on currency converter and was shown a value of $143,114.28 Canadian dollars this morning. S my question is how can Banknote World sell A 100 million digital Bolivar for $45 USD ?
Hello the 1 Million had 6 zeros removed a while ago so its now only 1 Bolivar.
Your currency converter is confused by a factor of 1,000,000 …
So your 1 Million Bolivar Soberano = 1 Bolivar Digital = $0.143 … that was November and now it’s more like $0.04 …
Inflation continues …
How did the Venezuela Bolivar digital go from 25$-5$ Is the digital (VES) or is that the 2021 series?
They removed 6 zeros from the million series from 2020 and then they were based off the price of the digital
The Bolivar I have is 1 MILLION DE BOLIVARES
3 DE SEPTIEMBRE DE 2020
On the back of the Banknote
Batalla de Carabobo
What is it worth on today’s market and is the sticker symbol RVB?

Hello Peggy, the name of the currency is the Bolivar Digital but, its still a physical banknote. “digital” is only part of the name to distinguish it from the previous generations.
Hi.. what is the difference of the 20 million Digitales Bolivar that is $1799.00 and the one that is 2 dollars? Why is the first one so expensive? Thank you.. also, I read that when Ven. Took off the 6 0s it didn’t change the value of the money. Is that true?
Hi Joey, the difference is that the $1,799.99 one is a replacement banknote which is more rare (like a USD star note) and the other one is a normal run of the mill banknote. If you want to read more on replacement banknotes here are a few articles:

Mine only has the Bolivares and does not have digitalis on it. So would it say digitals on it?
Hello Connie, the “Digitales” series does not have the “Digitales” written on the banknotes, it’s only part of the name of the series.
So I have been told that the 2020 500 MIL Soborano counts as 500K not 500MIL as it says on the note. Is that true?
Hi, 500 Mil is the spanish translation for 500 Thousand. The denomination 500,000 remains the same no matter what language.
Hello I have (10) 10,000,000 and (10) 20,000,000 Republica Bolivariana de Venezuela .which equal out to 300,000,000. Which in Spanish translation 300,000. Is this correct.
Hello if the banknotes are from the Digital series then they are counted without any additional zeros. If you need further help you can contact us via toll free call +1-888-448-9199 or via email: shop@banknoteworld.com
