The Burundi 500 Francs is part of the family of notes issued in 2013 with the same design as with preceding issues but are smaller in size. This particular banknote has been given a grade of 68 by the Paper Money Guaranty. Its obverse side features a carving of natives in bas relief, trees, and a cauldron. On the reverse is the Banque de la Republique du Burundi building in Bujumbura. It also features a palm tree and the Coat of Arms of the country. The 132 x 67 mm paper banknote has a windowed security thread with a demetallized BRB. It also has a watermark that reflects a cattle.
