This 2 Canadian dollar coin commemorates the 100th anniversary of the discovery of insulin in 2021. The coin is in mint condition and bimetallic—it has a brass-plated aluminum-bronze center and a nickel-plated steel ring. It also weighs 6.99 g and has a diameter of 28 mm. Its front side is designed by Susanna Blunt and engraved by Susan Taylor. It contains an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II with a maple leaf above and the value below. Its reverse side is designed by Jesse Koreck and engraved by Traian Georgescu. It shows the scientific instruments used in the early formulation of insulin, red blood cells, glucose, and insulin molecules.
