This uncirculated 1,000 escudo note from Cape Verde was introduced in 1989 and withdrawn in 2008. It bears the date 20 de Janeiro de 1989 and the signatures of Minister of Finance Pedro Verona Rodrigues Pires and Bank Governor Amaro Alexandre da Luz. A portrait of Amilcar Cabral, the leader of the independence movement, graces the front side of the note. The vertically-oriented backside of the note features insectsthe Pierid butterflies and the desert locust. Its security features include an ear of corn registration device, a solid security thread with printed BCV, and a watermark of Cabral. Its dimensions are 143 mm by 67 mm. This note was printed by Thomas De La Rue and Company Ltd.
