Centered on the obverse is Colombian poet Jose Asuncion Silva standing and on the right is his close-up image. The obverse also displays the denomination in dark brown-to-light brown Optically Variable Ink and a copper-to-green OVI puya plant. The back of the banknote depicts frailejon plants at the mountainous scenery of the Paramos de Colombia Fuentes de Agua. Also shown on the note is a spectacled bear walking on four legs and a flying Andean condor. Silvas poem titled Melancholia and the Liberty head bak seal is shown on the upper left. The banknote bears a Fuschia to green windowed security thread with a demetalized BRC and bumblebees. Additionally, the 133 x 66 mm paper bill carries registration devices that reflect BRC and a bumblebee. It also has a watermark that consists of Jose Asuncion Silva and an electrotype 5. This Colombia 5,000 pesos is graded 66 by the Paper Money Guaranty.
