The front side of the note bears a decorative design on a multi-colored underprint. It also bears a close-up image of Juan Mora Fernandez who served as the first Head of State. Centered on the back design is the first coat of arms of Costa Rica. The banknote is 185 x 85 mm in size and is made of paper.
