The Cyprus 5 Pounds Banknote was released in 2003 and was used in circulation up until the Cypriot pound was replaced by the euro in 2008. The color palettes are purple, green, orange and blue. Slightly bigger than its 1-pound counterpart, the 5 pounds banknote is 148 x 72 mm in size and protected by a windowed security thread. The obverse side features the head of young man, dated around 5th century BC, found in the Potamia village in northeast Cyprus. It also shows the countrys map and official coat of arms with a dove carrying an olive branch. The reverse side shows the St. Barnabas and Hilarion Church and mosque in Peristerona, a large village near Nicosia, the countrys capital city.
