The 50 Gibraltar pound banknote was withdrawn on August 31, 2011. When the note was introduced in 1995, it marked the 30th death anniversary of Prime Minister Winston Churchill. The red and orange note measures 158 mm by 85 mm. The obverse features Queen Elizabeth II, the coat of arms of Gibraltar, a carriage with a driver and a horse, swallowtail butterflies, and Macacus Sylvanus (Barbary ape). The reverse features Prime Minister Churchill, four parked Spitfire airplanes, and a torch. The security features of the note are a windowed security thread and a watermark of Queen Elizabeth II.
