Part of the first series of banknotes issued by the Bank of England to depict a reigning monarch, the 5 British pound banknote was withdrawn on August 1973. The note focuses on the portrait of a newly crowned Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse side and a depiction of sitting Britannia holding a laurel leaf with a shield leaning on her. The note has a solid security thread and a watermark of Laureate heads. This banknote has been given a grade of 64 by the Paper Money Guaranty.
