This round copper-nickel 2,000 dollar coin from Guyana commemorates the 175th anniversary of the first indentured Indian immigrants to the then British colony of Guyana. One side of the coin shows the coat of arms of Guyana. The other side of the coin, designed by Courtney Douglas, depicts the two ships that carried the indentured immigrants from India to Guyana approaching a sugar cane plant as the sun shines on. The coin weighs 28 g, has a diameter of 39 mm, and a thickness of 3.1 mm. The coin also comes with a booklet from the Bank of Guyana that contains a brief history of the Indian immigrants and short descriptions of the coin.
