The Haiti 10 Gourdes banknote was issued in 2004 in commemoration of the bicentennial of Haitian independence from France in 1804. This light blue and purple banknote measures 132 x 64 mm and carries text in both French and Haitian Creole. The front side bears the portrait of Lieutenant Sanite Belair, a female Haitian Freedom fighter and revolutionary, with soldiers fighting with rifles in the background. Meanwhile, the reverse side features Fort Cap-Rouge, a 200-year old fortress located in Jacmel, a port town on the south coast of Haiti.
