The banknote's front design depicts the HSBC headquarters building, the bank logo as a registration device, a lion's statue, a lions head, and a numeric 50 in SPARK. The reverse side features a young man and woman reading a card from a hanging ornate lantern during the Spring Lantern Festival and the HSBC logo. The security features of the note include a green-to-magenta windowed security thread with demetalized HK50 and large HK made up of small letters to enhance its security features, a Bauhinia flower watermark, and electrotype 50 on pixelized design.
