This Hong Kong 50 Dollar banknote was released in January 2009 by the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited. The banknote has new designs aiming to highlight various local scenic spots that reflect Hong Kongs stability and prosperity. The obverse side of the 50-dollar note features the high-rise building of the Bank of China Tower, chrysanthemum flowers, Bauhinia flowers, the Cultural Centre as a registration device, and the bank logo. The reverse side features a skyline view of the Cultural Centre, Clock Tower, Promenade, and ferry boat at Star Ferry Piers on the Kowloon Peninsula. The note measures 148 x 74 mm and contains a 4-mm wide windowed holographic security thread with demetalized HK50 and Chinese characters and a solid security thread to enhance its security features. Placing the note under a UV light would reflect a Bauhinia flower watermark and electrotype 50.
