The obverse features a lion rampant, the crowned coat of arms, and a unicorn rampant on the left. It also shows a sailing ship and Chinese junk. The reverse depicts reclining lion statues flanking the 4th HSBC headquarters building in the Central District in Hong Kong. It also displays a ferry in Hong Kong Harbour with a skyline, mountains, and the Kowloon-Canton Railway Clock Tower.
