The Ireland 1 Pound is part of the series of banknotes issued between 1976 to 1993 that featured famous Irish figures. This particular note released in 1982 highlights Medb, a queen in Irish mythology famous for being the archetypal warrior queen, on the front side. Beside Medb is a composite art of text taken from old Irish epic literature blended with pre-Christian geometric design found on bone slips. Meanwhile, the back features an artistic excerpt from a 12th century Irish manuscript. This note is 148 x 78 mm in size and was removed from circulation in 1990 to give way to the Irish pound coin.
