The Royal Dutch Mint produced only 5,000 silver proof coins to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Malta Independence. The 10 euro coin was designed by Noel Galea Bason. One side of the coin bears a colored coat of arms of the Universitas of Mdina. The other side of the coin depicts former Prime Minister Dom The Architect Mintoff holding up the declaration of independence from Britain, an excerpt of which is written in the background. The coin weighs 28.28 g. It has a diameter of 38.61 mm. It also with a pamphlet with technical details of the coin from the Central Bank of Malta.
