This 20 New Zealand dollar note is part of the Brighter Money series issued by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand from 2015 to 2016. This note was introduced on 16 May 2016 and signed by Bank Governor Graeme Paul Wheeler. Its obverse side honors Lord Ernest Rutherford of Nelson, the father of nuclear physics. His portrait, a radioactivity graph, and a Nobel Prize medal are featured on the obverse side. Its reverse side features a South Island lichen moth, a Red Beech tree, a yellowhead mohua bird, and the Eglinton Valley in Fiordland National Park. Because this note is printed on a polymer substrate, it does not have a security thread nor a watermark. Instead, it has dimensions of 155 mm x 74 mm and violet, orange, and red colors.
