This Northern Ireland 5 Pound banknote was issued to commemorate the new millennium and the year 2000. It was released in January 2000 with a Y2K prefix on the serial number instead of mm. The banknote's front design features the Northern Bank logo, along with a transparent Earth, Sun, and Star of Bethlehem. With a depiction of the beginning of the universe and the birth of the solar system. The reverse side features a transparent Earth, Sun, and Star of Bethlehem along with a space shuttle, a pocket watch, and the Northern Bank logo. The note does not contain any security threads however a watermark image of the Northern Bank and star is made visible under a UV light.
