The Central Bank of Oman released 5,000 commemorative coins to celebrate the selection of Nizwa as the Capital of Islamic Culture for 2015. Minted by Japan Mint, the reverse side of the coin depicts the colored logo of this occasion, which symbolizes Nizwa Fort and the dome of the Sultan Qaboos Mosque in Nizwa. The obverse side depicts the national emblem of Oman: a sheathed khanjar placed on top of two crossed swords. The coin weighs 28.28 g and has a diameter of 38.61 mm.
