The 2010 issue of the 5 Omani rial is part of the family of banknotes that commemorate the 40th anniversary of National Day, the Sultans birthday and the day he overthrew his father in 1970. The red banknote measures 153 mm long and 76 mm wide. The obverse features a khanjar printed in green SPARK ink, a portrait of Sultan Qaboos, the Sultan Qaboos University building, and the main entrance of the Central Bank of Oman headquarters. The reverse side features the Nizwa buildings and the 40th National Day logo. The note has a varifeye thread, a windowed security thread with demetalized 5 RIALS, a watermark of Sultan Qaboos bin Said, an electrotype watermark of 5, and a crown as the notes registration device.
