This Portugal 20 Escudos banknote is part of the Banco de Portugal’s 1978 issues. Its obverse depicts a portrait of navigator Admiral Gago Coutinho who, along with Sacadura Cabral, was the first aviator to cross the South Atlantic Ocean by airplane. On the reverse is the Biplane Fairey IIID-MKII called “Lusitania”, the Belem tower, a map, and a compass. The banknote is 135 x 66 mm in size and bears a watermark that reflects Admiral Gago Coutinho. It also carries the signatures of Emilio Rui da Veiga Peixoto Vilar and Vitor Manuel Ribeiro Constancio. This paper bill is in uncirculated condition.
