This Portugal 20 Escudos banknote was issued by the Banco de Portugal in 1978. Depicted on its obverse is the portrait of navigator Admiral Gago Coutinho who, along with Sacadura Cabral, was the first aviator to cross the South Atlantic Ocean by airplane. The reverse features the Biplane Fairey IIID-MKII called “Lusitania”, the Belem tower, a map, and a compass. The banknote measures 135 x 66 mm and is equipped with a watermark that reflects Admiral Gago Coutinho. It also carries the signatures of Emilio Rui da Veiga Peixoto Vilar and Luis Carlos de Assuncao Braz Teixeira. This paper bill is in uncirculated condition.
