This uncirculated 500 Portuguese escudo note is a standard circulation banknote issued by the Bank of Portugal as part of the Seafarers and Explorers series. It is a red and brown note that is dated 11 September 1997, bear the signatures of Antonio Jose Fernandes de Sousa and Antonio Manuel Martins Pereira Marta, and measures 125 mm x 68 mm. Its obverse side shows the historian Joao de Barros. Its reverse side depicts an allegory of the different Portuguese discoveries. Security features include a solid security thread and a watermark of Joao de Barros.
