The Portugal 500 Escudos Banknote is from the 1997 series before the currency was replaced by the introduction of the euro in 1999. The obverse features the portrait of Portuguese chronicler and historian Joao de Barros. The reverse side shows an allegory of the Age of Discovery with a depiction of life in India in the background. This banknote measures 125 x 68 mm and has shades of orange, gold and rose light.
