Portugal 500 Escudos Banknote, 1997, P-187b.6, UNC, TAP Authenticated

This 500 Portuguese escudo note is part of the series of notes issued by Banco de Portugal that featured Portuguese seafarers and explorers. It is dated 14.04.1997 and signed by Bank Governor Antonio Jose Fernandes de Sousa and Bank Administrator Carlos Alberto de Oliveira Cruz. Its obverse side features Joao de Barros, the Portuguese Livy and one of the first great Portuguese historians. Its reverse side depicts a scene from life in India according to Barros Decadas da Asia (Decades of Asia), a man of science and letters, and a merchant. Security features of the note include a solid security thread and a watermark of Joao de Barros. This red note measures 125 mm x 68 mm and is in uncirculated condition.
