The Qatar 500 Riyals banknote is blue and violet and measures 164 x 73.5 mm. It comes from the 2007 series that was designed similarly to preceding banknotes with the exception of an 18-mm wide demetalized security thread with a clear polymer oval aperture called Optiks. The front side shows a holographic imagery of different symbols along with Qatars coat of arms. Meanwhile, the back side features the Royal Palace and Al-Wajbah Fort on the left and the head of a falcon on the right. In Qatar, collecting falcons is considered a status symbol and a popular pastime.
