The Canadian dollar was the first currency to feature Queen Elizabeth II at just 8 years of age on the 11th of March 1935 with the first Canadian dollar series. The portrait was taken by the official royal photographer Marcus Adams. Continuing the tradition of “firsts”, Canada featured the very first banknote to feature her likeness after her accession to the throne in the third Canadian dollar series. Released on the 9th of September 1954, the banknote featured the controversial portrait referred to as the “devils head” series due to the image of a “devil” in her hair. One of the more unusual portraits in the Canadian series is that of the Bird Series. It was created in 1986 and features a photograph taken once again by Anthony Buckley. What makes this banknote unusual and unique is that QEII is depicted very casually with a modest dress and pearls given to her by her father king George V. In the Frontier Series, Queen Elizabeth II is featured with a photograph by Ian Jones and engraved by Jorge Peral.
