This used 100,000 Romanian lei banknote is a standard circulation banknote issued by the National Bank of Romania. It is an orange, purple, red, brown, and yellow banknote that is dated 2001/2003, bear the signatures of Mugur Constantin Isarescu and Ionel Nitu, and measures 160 mm x 73 mm. Its obverse side shows the national coat of arms, flowers in the underprint, hollyhock flowers (Althea officinalis), the BNR monogram, an artist’s palette and brush, an artist’s palette in OVI, and a portrait of Nicolae Grigorescu. Its reverse side depicts an excerpt from Grigorescu’s “Rodica, the Water Carrier”, a traditional village house in the Province of Oltenia, and the BNR monogram. Though the banknote does not have a security thread, it has an artist palette registration device and a watermark of Nicolae Grigorescu with the BNR monogram. The banknote was withdrawn in 2005.
