This 2012 Samoan tala coin commemorates the 50th anniversary of Samoas independence from New Zealand. Its obverse side contains the portrait of Mataafa Faumuina Mulinuu II, the first prime minister of Samoa. Its reverse side depicts a traditional Samoan boat sailing into the sunset with an old Samoan fishing proverb surrounding the picture. The coin weighs 20 g, has a diameter of 38.7 mm, and is made of a zinc-bronze alloy.
