This used 5 South African rand banknote is a standard circulation banknote introduced by the South African Reserve Bank in 1978. It is a purple and orange banknote that bears the signature of Gerhardus Petrus Christiaan de Kock, and measures 127 mm x 63 mm. Its obverse side shows a portrait of Jan van Riebeeck and a diamond. Its reverse side depicts mine buildings and stylized modern skyscrapers. Security features include a solid security thread and a watermark of Jan van Riebeeck.
