The Uruguay 5,000 Nuevos Pesos Banknote was issued by the Central Bank of Uruguay in 1983. The note comes in a color combination of reddish brown, dark brown, blue, and green. Its obverse features Brigadier General Juan Antonio Lavalleja wearing a military uniform and the coat of arms of Uruguay. It also shows scales and the rising sun in the underprint. The reverse depicts a quill and a crowd of people amidst the flags of Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and the UK Merchant Navy on the promulgation of the constitution on July 18, 1830, in Plaza Matriz in front of the cabildo in Montevideo. The note contains the solid security thread with printed URUGUAY and a watermark that reveals Jose Gervasio Artigas. The note measures 159 x 74 mm. It is part of Series B and bears the signature of Juan Cesar Pacchiotti and Jose Maria Puppo. This particular paper bill is in uncirculated condition.
