The West African States 500 Francs banknote is part of the 2013 issues. It is orange, brown, and green in color and measures 114 x 60 mm. The obverse side shows a denomination as a registration device, a sawfish figurine, a map of Africa, electronic circuits, and a hand touching the screen on a tablet. The reverse side features two hippopotamuses (Hippopotamus Amphibius) standing in grassland and a penal code. This banknote uses a 1-mm wide solid security thread with printed UMOA 500 and contains a watermark with a sawfish and electrotype 500 design. It is graded 66 by the Paper Money Guarantee (PMG).
