The Zero Euro banknote from the 2017-1st print series features the Burg Mildenstein castle in Germany. The 10th-century fortress was once used as a noble residence and was later converted into a museum. During the 18th century, it housed the regional court of law, prison, and apartments for officials. The souvenir banknote was designed by Richard Faile in 2015 to promote tourism with an authorized printing by the European Central Bank (ECB), and shares many of the same characteristics of a real Euro except that it is marked as O and is not considered a legal tender. The front design of the note reflects the beauty of Europe by highlighting its iconic landmarks including the Brandenburg Gate, Big Ben, the Eiffel Tower, the Colosseum, Sagrada Familia, Manneken Pis, and the Mona Lisa.
