The Cayman Island dollar began circulating on May 1st, 1972 and it had two other series releases in 1991 and 2004. The 1991 series featured the portrait by Peter Grugeon and the banknote company De La Rue engraved it. Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee was celebrated in this time, marking 25 years of rule by the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. Queen Elizabeth II is seen wearing the Grand Duchess Vladimir’s Tiara. On the reverse of these banknotes are various depictions of Cayman Islands’ life including beach scenery and sailing. In the 2004 series, the portrait was taken in 1999 by Mark Lawrence. Queen Elizabeth is once again once again wearing the Grand Duchess Vladimir’s Tiara in this series as well.
