The smallest denomination of the 1987 series which was primarily issued for numismatic sales, the 3 Cook Island dollar banknote is one of the modern banknotes that feature a naked woman. The image of a bare-breasted Ina, the legendary lover of the ocean god Tinirau, holding a coconut as she rides a wave on top of a shark is featured on the notes obverse side. The pukapuka fishing canoe, a carved statue of Te-Rongo with a penis, and native designs are featured on the notes reverse side. The note measures 150 mm x 75 mm. Because it was issued for numismatic sales, the note does not have security features.
